TED Talk 3 Secrets of Resilient People By Lucy Hone

Dr. Lucy Hone examines what it really means to be resilient in the face of loss in her poignant TED Talk, "3 Secrets of Resilient People." Drawing on her study and the devastating loss of her daughter, Hone offers three potent resilience-building principles that anybody can apply. Accept that "shit happens" first. It is not a sign of failure to experience pain and struggle; they are a natural part of life. Second, concentrate on your controllable. People who are resilient make conscious decisions about where to focus their energies, prioritizing opportunity and thankfulness over hopelessness. Hone concludes by urging us to consider whether the actions we take are beneficial or detrimental to us. This straightforward inquiry guides our decision-making in ways that promote recovery and development. Hone's discussion serves as a reminder that resilience is a set of abilities that we can all cultivate rather than an innate quality. Her message—that it is possible to...

Reflection on my Persuasive Talk Presentation

During my persuasive talk presentation I think that I did well on my timing and storytelling about my trip to Europe in March. This trip was full of amazing memories for me so it was easy for me to be enthusiastic about my topic. My presentation brought up so many fun memories from the trip I was able to use that and expand on my visual aids since they were images that I had from the trip. Compared to my first presentation I think that I did better at using my time effectively and efficiently. Something that I need to work is practicing what I am going to say beyond my points on the slides. This will help me speak more confidently and clearly about my topic. I also need to work speaking slower because I tend to speak faster when I am nervous or anxious when speaking in front of a group of people. Overall this presentation went better than my first one because I was able to choose my topic which helped me have a better use of time.
